Q1) Does 5 of a kind beat royal flush? I'm pretty sure that it does, but I was playing in a game the other night and the others there said that it beats a lower straight flush but not a royal flush. Luckily my 5 9's were only up against a lower straight flush.
Q2) I was playing a high low game where the rules stated that you needed a flush or better to win high. Someone went high ahead of me, and I had a hand that was good enough to go high or low, but not high and low. I had an 8 high flush, so I figured that the guy going high probably had me beat. I went low, and the guy says "Woops, I only have a straight." So the guy who won low took the whole pot. I would have won high if I had gone that way, and I would have gone that way if this guy wouldn't have gone high in error. Should I have had any recourse? Should the guy have been penalized somehow? What do you do in your games?
stephen g replied: "in strait poker a royal strait flush . bets 4 A's 5 would be with a joker. Jokers good only with A's,straits and flushes."
bigslick316 replied: "In truth, "royal flush" is nothing more than a nickname for a particular hand, that of course being a "straight flush to the ace," so five of a kind should beat it. If the rules of your game state otherwise, however, so be it."
JudasHero replied: "Q1. although I think poker games where you can get 5 of a kind are ridiculous, I actually read the technical rules on that one, and no, a royal flush is still the best hand. I believe it beats a straight flush though.
Q2. Again, another rule variation which I think is utterly ridiculous, but a friend of mine abides by. I think your best recourse is to play hi-lo properly, where you simply show your hand and the best hi and best lo win. I don't play those silly "flush or better" or "call the hi/lo" games, that's what I do."
dennis s replied: "answer to # 1 a royal flush is the BEST hand in poker period!!!!! with or without wild cards.#2you have no recourse for someone elses stupidity!!! you play your hand and you ONLY are resposible for your decisions.AT my house we play house rules and discuss such an occurance beforehand and set the rules/penalties etc. ahead of time so there is no missunderstanding before play begins."
SecundzNotis replied: "5 of a kind, with wild cards of course, beats a royal. That is the door that you open when playing with jokers or wild cards. Straight poker has no 5 of a kind.
Your secund question sounds like a 'luck of the draw' misfortune. You win some and you lose more."
William H replied: "5 of a kind is not possible in a regular poker game. The rankings of poker hands depends on how likely the hand is to come into play. Since is more likely to get a royal flush than 5 of a kind, 5 of a kind is a higher ranker hand.
The person who declared high and did not win was penalized in that he did not win the hand."
Vegas Matt replied: "There is no official rule for 5 of a kind vs royal since regular games do not include wild cards. Since you made the game, you decide.
At video poker machines with wild cards a 'natural' royal (a royal with no wild cards) pays out higher than 5 of a kind+ut a 5 of a kind pays out better than a royal with a wild card (i.e. A,K,Q,J, Joker). If I were you, that's how I'd do it."

First a dealer shuffles a standard 52-card deck And then the first round of betting takes place, then dealer discards the first card on top of the deck to make sure no one saw the top card. this called the "burn" and is done to avoid cheating. The dealer will do it twice and start another round of betting. Again the dealer burns another card, This is the time where players can use any combination of seven cards, the five cards and the other two cards only known to them to make the best possible five-card poker hand. Then the final round of betting starts from the player on the left side of the dealer. After the final betting, players that remains in the game reveal their hands. A player who made the initial bet or the player who made the last raise will be the first to show their hands"

Michael replied: "The Basics
Poker originated in the saloons of the Wild West and has probably the most game variants. It is played player against players and not just against the dealer as in Blackjack, and there is a lot of psychology involved during play. Poker takes a moment to learn and a lifetime to master.
Poker is played from a standard deck of 52 cards. Some variant games use multiple decks or add Jokers or Wild Cards.
The cards are ranked in descending order starting from the highest; Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, Ace. Ace can be high or low. There are four suits; spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs, but no suit is higher than another.
Each player is dealt five cards and is called a hand. The hand highest in ranks wins. In some games there are Wild Cards or Jokers, which can be labelled whatever suit and rank the possessor wishes to.
The Ranking of Poker Hands
The ranking of poker hands based on probability starting from the highest are as follows.
There are 2,598,960 possible combinations of cards in a poker hand you can be dealt. In brackets below next to the ranking of hands, are 1st the number of possible hands of that rank in 2,598,960 possible combinations, and 2nd your chances of getting one in percentage probability:
1. Five of a Kind (with a Wild card or Joker)
2. Royal Flush (4 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 0.000154%)
3. Straight Flush (36 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 0.00139%)
4. Four of a Kind (624 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 0.0240%)
5. Full House (3744 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 0.144%)
6. Flush (5108 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 0.197%)
7. Straight (10,200 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 0.392%)
8. Three of a Kind (54912 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 2.11%)
9. Two Pair (123,552 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 4.75%)
10. Pair (1,098,240 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 42.26%)
11. High Card (1,302,540 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 50.12%)
Playing Poker
In most games players must 'ante' a nominal amount just to have the cards dealt. Once the cards are dealt, the betting starts. Players bet into the pot in the middle of the table and it is done in turn clockwise.
The player with the highest rank showing, is the first to speak and to bet. He can either bet or check. By saying 'Check', he passes the decision to bet to the next player who can also check. If all players check, then it is the end of the round. Everyone opens his cards and the highest hand wins.
Only after one player places a bet the real betting starts. Each player in turn can either 'Call', 'Raise' or 'Fold'. To fold is to pass or drop out of the round and not play. To call means willing to match the bet, and the same amount must be placed on the pot. To raise means to match the bet and add an extra bet.
Say you start with a $5 bet. If someone else raises $10, he puts $15 in the pot. When your turn comes again you need to add $10 difference to the pot to stay in the game, and if you want you can also raise or even say 'Pot'. Pot is a raise to the maximum, which means to bet the same amount as the total money available in the pot.
If there are no more raises and all the cards have been dealt, then it is the end of the round. Everyone opens his closed cards and the highest hand wins the pot.

Texas Hold'em poker rules!!? What is the blind and what does it do in the game? Okay so....
At the start the dealer chip is given to a player.
The two players to the left of the dealer, have to pay up.
I know that this is the limit of betting, so there is a small blind and a big blind!
But how does thew blind work?
Walter S replied: "It goes around the table and goes up usually after a certian amount of time, to keep the game going otherwise you could site there and wait for a hand forever.the big blind is twice the the small blind. and the small blind has the option."
Do you have your own set of poker rules, that you try to follow? Like, not drink and play poker or never play with more than 5% of your poker account.
Brase replied: "Play conservative. Try to ride it out and let people take each other out at the table unless you have a solid hand from the flop. In that case play agressive and try to take down a big pot then go right back to conservative mode. This is of course if you playing a tournement game. Then once you narrow down the players you can play more aggressively."
http://KingCobraPoker.com replied: "Each player must come up with their own set which really depends on you and usually it's through learning from pain :)
I don't usually drink when I play but I can play well with a few drinks but a lot of people can't.
For me it's not staying at a table I don't like and this is probably the biggest mistake players make. Get the heck out of there if you don't feel good about it even if it takes a while to get another seat.

TheDoverPro replied: "Generally I play a tight-agressive game. I don't drink, so that is not a problem. I play tournaments these days almost exclusively, usually MTT, but sometimes SNG, so I limit my buyins to no more than about 5% of my gambling stake.
Also I try to be polite and friendly at the table.
The most important part of my game is maintaining a positive attitude while playing. I have found this to be effective in play. Other players that try to read me find it a bit harder to do, since I provide a consistent image. It does help.
Good luck at the tables."
Bigsky_52 replied: "I do, and most of my rules center around bankroll management and when to play. Here are my rules, set out in commandment style.
Thou shalt not buy into a MTT for more than 2% of your bankroll.
Thou shalt not buy into a single table s'n'g or ring game for more than 5% of your bankroll.
Thou shalt not buy into a game if you are feeling angry, tired, or depressed.
Thou shalt not drink and play cards, unless it's a friendly home game where the goal is to socialize instead of win money.
Thou shalt not go all in on a flush draw.
Thou shall divvy up thy profits with thy wife."
What are the betting rules of strip poker? As I understand it, clothing is used in place of chips or cash, therefore you could use your winnings as a wager. For example, when you win a hand, the other player removes and item of clothing and you can then put it on, giving you another item to come off before you start exposing anything. Like in regular poker, you add your winnings to your pile and use it in the game.
My boyfriend, on the other hand, thinks you just take off your clothes and leave them off, not give them to the winner. I think he's just saying this to get me naked. What do you guys think?
jj_n_79 replied: "The game can be played based on any variety of poker, with the same number of players, dealing and betting rules, and other details. It usually starts with all players wearing an equal number of articles of clothing. There are a number of ways in which the standard rules can then be developed into strip poker, with varying degrees of similarity to the poker betting found in casinos. Like many other adult party games, the rules are often flexible, and other activities can be included besides playing cards.
Basic Strip Poker Rules
In strip poker, instead of playing for cash, people play for clothes. Alternately, the game can start out with people playing for money, and when players run out of cash, they must offer up articles of clothing to remain in a hand. Whether the clothes are removed before or after the hand varies. Generally, any variation of poker can be played, or any game at all, though usually simpler games with fewer betting rounds -- such as five card draw or one of its variations -- are used to keep the game simple.
How Much Is Each Article Worth?
Before the game begins, players should agree to the value of different clothing items. For example, if a sock is worth one unit, is a shirt worth two? Similarly, is it possible for people to buy back clothes?
Losing and Winning
Generally, a person loses when they have lost all their clothing. The winner is usually the last person with clothes.
But basically the point of the game is to get someone naked.... No if and or but's about it :D"
what are the rules of strip poker? what are the rules of strip poker?
Pedro-Peewee replied: "Exactly the same as normal poker except when you lose a hand you take off a piece of clothing."
jbradc69 replied: "If you lose a hand you lose a piece of clothing, anything that comes in pairs such as socks, shoes etc is considered 1 piece of clothing.....good luck"
Clint replied: "you need to agree on what happens after no clothes left-what does the individual have to do next if they lose the next hand?"
john replied: "you play with a bunch of members of the opposite sex and then you cheat a lot so they lose."
Stu pid replied: "At the start of the game all the women take of all their clothes and give them to the men, then the women have to try to win the clothes back!"
KEN H replied: "I'm with Stu pid"
Happy Helper replied: "Same as a normal game of poker but when you loose a hand you loose clothing not money.
I advise you only play with members of the oppersite sex and also have large amounts of alcohol to hand to aid the striping proccess.
Enjoy"
Sanjay M replied: "However you want. I've played a version where everyone gets $1000 in chips to start, and as you drop below that you lose clothing. It allows fluctuations and an ability to win back clothing, but once you run out, you're done."
dmrbrn replied: "You can make the game just as the participants want them to be.
There are several solutions:ВЁ
1. Lowest hand removes clothing
2. Each player starts with an amount of money (eg. 100) and when a player loses it. He/she has to remove a piece of clothing.
3. Just draw cards, and then agree beforehand what should cause a garment to be removed. (Eg. all 10's remove a garment, or all clubs remove a garment)
The key-word to it all, has to be agreement. Just make sure that the rules are very clear so there's no possibility of chickening out."
bigwavegirl2006 replied: "The biggest thing to do is all players agree to the rules in advance. If they are uncomfortable stripping naked, then stop that game with just underwear. Also, decide what happens when they are out of clothes.
The basic rules are the same as poker. Some rules that I have played with that made the game more fun were...
1. It is the choice of the person with the highest hand to either put something back on, or make the person with the lowest hand take something off.
2. We played five card draw and everyone was given two chances to exchange cards. You could fold after the first card exchange and you wouldn't have to take anything off. However, after you folded the 3rd time, you had to take something off, and then you started over again at zero.
3. Determine when the stopping point is. I have played a few times where the loser was totally naked, and I really didn't want to see some of those people totally naked. Before the game starts, agree that the game will end when you lose everything except your underwear, or whatever you are comfortable with.
4. Agree what happens when you lose. I was at one party where we played to our underwear (bra and underwear for girls) and then had to stay like that until the game was over. I sat in my underwear for almost an hour. I also played a game where the person could keep playing if they were naked and had to do a dare of some kind if they lost again. That wasn't as fun."
deltagremlin replied: "play with fit girls"
mertev replied: "1-every player must be drunk
2-half of the players should be from the opposite sex
3-your clothes are your poker chips"
Ollie replied: "You keep your money & lose your clothes."
How to play poker at home without a dealer? To have poker night, what would be the ideal rules? Some friends of mine are thinking of starting a poker night, I was curious on how the rules would be idealy. If there was no dealer, would the shuffle be done by each player once? Would the raising and calling take place before and/or after changing cards? If we were to play with a 100 $ each per night, what would be the best limits to have a good fun game. I need some experieced helps, no answers just for points please.
Thanks in advance.
What are the rules to each game in a Horse Poker Tournament? Does anyone know the rules to each of the 5 Horse Poker variencts (e.g. Holdem / Omaha / Stud / etc) and do you have any tips on how to adapt to each game if you are already competent at Holdem
andujar1984 replied: "In Horse tournaments, the game changes along with the blind levels. You start with Limit Holdem, Then Omaha 8 or better, then Razz, then Seven card stud high, then seven card stud eight or better.
Limit Holdem (http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/holdem.php )
This is Texas holdem where the bet is fixed. For example, if the blinds are $5/$10, you can bet and raise in increments of $5 until fourth street or the turn card, where you can then bet in increments of $10.
Omaha 8/better (http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/omaha8.php )
This an Omaha Hi-Lo game. The low hand will be any 5 distinct cards (no pairs) with no card greater than an 8. If someone has a hand that qualifies for the low hand, then the pot would be split with the winner of the High hand. If there is no qualifying low hand, then the winner of the high hand would scoop the entire pot. Omaha is dealt like holdem, except each person is dealt 4 cards instead of 2. In Omaha you must use 2 of your hole cards and 3 of the community cards to make your best hand, you cannot use all 4 of your hole cards.
Razz (http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/razz.php )
This is a seven card stud game. In Razz there is no high hand, the object of Razz is to have the worst possible hand. The best possible hand in Razz is A-2-3-4-5 for a 5 high. Generally I only play if the first 3 cards dealt to me are 8 or lower and not paired.
Seven Card Stud HIGH (http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/stud.php )
This is a seven card stud game where the high hand wins the pot. There is no split pot, you get dealt 2 down cards, then 4 up, then 1 down at the end.
Seven Card Stud 8/better (http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/stud8.php
This is a Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo game where the low must qualify with an 8 or better low hand, just like the Omaha HI-Lo game.
In H.O.R.S.E tournaments, I have three games that I really like and two that I don't. So my goal is to accumulate as much chips as possible during the Holdem, omaha and razz games, so that I can allow myself to sit idle during the Stud HI-LO games which I am not very good at yet. The stud games can be a lot easier to bluff however, because opponents can see 4 of your 7 cards. If you have an A-K-Q showing on your board, you can bet and induce folds even if your hole cards havent paired any of those up cards."
Sally S replied: "You can find the rules to each on as for tips, check that sites "Tips From the Pros" section as it has an archive of all the tips from the Pros articles which have articles on several of the games involved in HORSE."
